Hey all, in this WIP post I’ll be building the Space Type Leo that was sent to me by The Hangar Bay.
The default colour scheme is pretty dull, and makes the kit look like a big purple blob. Since this Leo is kinda special being P-Bandai and all, for this build I’ll be painting it using the Titans Test Team colour scheme from Advance of Zeta:
Since there are no official kits with the TTT colour scheme I was kinda lost on how to mix these colours, then I remembered Bandai just released this guy:
Yep, that’s the Arc Impulse Gundam from Build Divers, TTT colour scheme and all. I’ll be using the colour mixes from that for this build.
We start off by painting the yellow trims and parts, then applying a thin masking tape over where the trims would be. I used the precut thin masking tape by Mr Hobby for this part.
For the shield I used Tamiya curved masking tape which allows you to bend and curve the tape to mask circular areas.
Next up, the light blue is painted. I used Mr Gundam Color Blue for this, and added some purple and a bit of white. Additional white is added for the highlight.
Time for the dark blue parts. More masking is applied on the shield, chest and shoulders. I kinda messed up masking the shield here.
After the masking tape is pulled off. Thankfully it turned out mostly okay.
The space backpack comes molded in a single colour and I didn’t quite like that. I painted the tanks white first, masked it off, then painted the rest of the backpack grey.
I added some Titans decals to the shield, shoulders and chest. Also that shield 🙁 *Cringe* I also sprayed some clear red over the eye part.
All the armour all done, I painted the various internals with SMS Stainless Steel over a gloss black base. Super shiny!
And here we are putting this guy togther…uh oh. The head is the wrong colour! It’s supposed to be the dark blue. Guess I messed up when sorting out the parts for painting. Back to the drawing board!
In the meantime, back to working on the weapons. The “Space” part of the Leo is rather simple, but the good thing is that this guy packs some serious heat! Since this project already has so much masking involved, a little more wouldn’t hurt right? I painted some Stainless Steel on various parts, masked it off, then light grey, masked it off, finally with my usual dark grey mix.
So that’s the end of the WIP. I ended up repainting the head the dark blue as per the TTT scheme. Also I did end up rushing a bit on this build and the paint is a bit rougher on certain parts than usual. The yellow trim on the chest and shoulder (especially the shoulder) is a bit thick, and if I could do it over I’d use the thinner precut masking tape.
Again, thanks to The Hangar Bay for providing this kit. If you’d like to support me and see me build more stuff like this in the future, please check out their store!
